Thanks to Insomnia… We Now Have a Facebook Page!

Posted on May 23, 2012 by Louie Tran Posted in Daily News, Workspaces Leave a comment

I’ve been really busy these days with my work and whatever that I have of a personal life leaving me little time to write and give extensive reviews on tech products. As you can see from my posts recently, I’ve been focusing a lot on food which is also one of life’s greatest gifts and it’s been a blessing having Karo whip up these amazing dishes in the kitchen in our home!

Although I haven’t updated this site much, I still participate heavily in Instagram (username louievtran), Twitter, Flickr and my own personal Facebook. The thing with my Facebook is that it’s only for friends and family and the link that I had to it on this site was sort of pointless. Since I wasn’t able to sleep last night, I decided to create a Facebook version of this page! You can get to it by clicking on the link on the header or simple click here!

Above is what my desk has been looking like and that’s on a good day!

Another Food Round Up!

Posted on May 20, 2012 by Louie Tran Posted in Food, Photography Leave a comment

Has food replaced my love for technology? Hardly. It’s just that I’ve been eating so well lately and love sharing how beautiful food can be! Some of these photos were taken with the iPhone 4S camera and some were taken with the Sony NEX-C3. Can you tell the difference?

Even More Food!

Posted on May 15, 2012 by Louie Tran Posted in Food, Photography 1 Comment

Here’s some more foodporn for you to enjoy! The Eggs, spam, and broccoli cheese dish and Asian Fusion Pasta were home made by Karo. I also finally transitioned over from iPhoto to Aperture and it’s awesome especially when I have even more ways to manipulate and post process the photos that I take. Aperture may look intimidating at first but it is so easy to use and will make a photographer with the minimal experience such as myself look like a pro!

The Geek’s Top Gadgets of 2011

Posted on December 31, 2011 by Louie Tran Posted in Daily News, Gadgets 5 Comments

This should actually be titled The Geeks Most Utilized Gadgets of 2011 but it doesn’t sound good as a headliner. To be honest, 2011 wasn’t really the year of innovation in the tech world. It was more like a year of improvement on what was innovated in 2010, such as the iPhone 4 to the 4S and just about every device getting a spec boost. Not to say that there isn’t anything bad about that and it definitely leaves a lot of room on what we can expect in 2012 such as a newly redesigned iPhone 5, next generation videogame consoles like the Nintendo Wii U or Xbox 720, and Windows 8. Here’s the Top 5 that I’ve used this year!  Continue reading→

Photography – Walking Around Old Town Pasadena

Posted on December 26, 2011 by Louie Tran Posted in Photography 1 Comment

I had to go to the Apple Store  today because my cat chewed up the power adaptor to my MacBook Air. I’ve lived in Pasadena, CA for at about 4 years and haven’t really taken any pictures of Old Town because it wasn’t really anything special since I practically see it every day. Pasadena (home of the Rose Bowl) was established in 1875 and “Old Town” is where it all started. Anyway, you can Google the rest so let’s take a quick look of the city…  Continue reading→

Photography – The Haunted Hallway

The Haunted Hallway

Well it’s not really haunted but it does look like something out of a horror movie. This is one of the hallways in the Pasadena City Hall which has been around since 1927. Been having a lot of fun with my camera and Aperture for the Mac.

Sony NEX C3 – Photos at Night in Pasadena City Hall

Posted on December 23, 2011 by Louie Tran Posted in Gadgets, Photography, Reviews 1 Comment

Testing how the Sony NEX C3 performs at night so I took some photos at the Pasadena City Hall. Out of the 91 photos that I took, only 21 were presentable because of my lack of photography skills!

Multitasking – Testing the Sony NEX C3, Brainstorming, and Playing With Cat!

Posted on December 20, 2011 by Louie Tran Posted in Daily News, Gadgets, Photography 1 Comment

After we all ate 5000+ calories at Jakes, we needed headed back to The Geeks’ Office to recover. Since we are firm believers in multitasking, we continued to test out the Sony NEX C3’s photo capabilities, watch Office Space for some inspiration and we all took turns violating the poor kitty…

Pictures of the cat were taken in S mode for shutter priority. This was the perfect opportunity to use that mode because she was squirming and rolling around on the floor thanks to Paul who stank of catnip and rubbed the cat all over his body (don’t ask). The Sony NEX C3 does an excellent job in capturing a kitty moving at rapid speeds as if time has stopped. Even while squirming and rolling, the camera produced sharp images of the cat (take a look at the fur).

We also tested the camera’s image stabilization feature. If you look at the photos where James is reaching out for the cat on top of the door, I was shaking the camera as if I was having a seizure and the images came out as if I was holding it still. I’ll be testing the camera even further for the rest of the week and it’s been a great experience so far!

Posted on December 19, 2011 by Louie Tran Posted in Daily News, Gadgets, Photography 1 Comment

Just spent about 15 minutes taking random pictures around my home and out on the street and I am really impressed so far. In fact, I like the camera so much right now, I’m even more intrigued on how the NEX 5N would perform! Check out the these photos!

Sony NEX C3K Camera Unboxing

Posted on December 18, 2011 by Louie Tran Posted in Daily News, Gadgets, Photography 1 Comment

Bought myself a Christmas gift and last minute write off for 2011. Barely unboxed it and the battery is charging now. I was going back and forth between this ($549) and the NEX 5N ($699)which is a $150 more expensive and the difference is mainly the touchscreen and 1080HD video recording. Going to try the NEX C3 first and possibly exchange to the NEX 5N if necessary.
