[Video] 600 Subscribers – Life Update

Posted on July 12, 2020 by Louie Tran Posted in Daily News Leave a comment

Just hit 600 subscribers so doing sort of VLOG and update on the state of things right now on a personal level. Actually using this as an excuse to test out the new camera light and the $200 wireless mic that I’ve only used once or twice.

I did commit earlier this year to doing at least 1 video at least once every week or two weeks but so many things have happened in the past 3 or 4 months where I couldn’t dedicate time to doing any videos. Got laid off, switched jobs, working on school, changed my plans for 2020, etc etc.

Thanks for watching and thanks for your continued support. Please be good to each other, stay safe, stay healthy, and let’s get through 2020 together.

Goodbye A6300 and 4 ASP-C lenses… Hello Sony A7III with Tamron 28-75 F2.8 Lens Full Frame

Happy New Year!

I wasn’t expecting to pickup any gear this early on of 2020, but I have been eyeing the Sony A7III ever since it came out in 2018. I’ve been rocking the A6300 with a handful of prime lenses and loved that camera. However, after borrowing a friends A7III, I’ve been amazed with and wanted one since. I figured I’d just wait for the A7IV to eventually come out but who knows when that might happen and the A7RIV is just simply overkill for my needs.

Yesterday, I sold my A6300 camera and 4 lenses and picked up with A7III with Tamron 28-75 F2.8 lens at my local camera store for a great deal. Sure it was a little impulsive and there is a chance that the A7IV could come out this year but I doubt that it would be leaps and bounds over this one. Like a kid on Christmas I ran home took it out of the box, put the battery in, popped on the lens and did the initial setup and then… 1% battery life left. I took a hasty quick photo of the closes thing around me of course it happened to be my cat Lilly.

I was pretty amazed at the quality, and even though I have borrowed this camera a few times, it feels different when I now actually own it. The Tamron lens is awesome. I think it is the only lens I will ever need but there’s a chance that I MIGHT pickup a 35mm or 50mm full frame prime in the near future.

No regrets whatsoever in selling my ASP-C camera and lens and I look forward to taking awesome photos this year… and maybe get back to doing YouTube videos again!

PT Smartcase for Note II

I don’t get the chance to post as often as I want to these days but I do update my Flickr and Instagram pretty frequently so you can see a lot of my food porn on both of them. If you haven’t noticed already I’ve switched from using the iPhone 5 and am now proudly sporting a Samsung Galaxy Note 2 which better suits my needs because of the customization, larger screen, and expandable capabilities. Although the iPhone 5 is a nice phone, I like most people have gotten bored of it and tired of Apple’s restrictions on how I can use my phone. I love the fact that I can load as many songs and videos I want in several different formats and it’s great that I can pop in a 32GB MicroSD card and not worry about space. I like it so much that I’ve pretty much broken free of the Apple eco-system and eliminated the need for having an iPad Mini because it was redundant having both. The Note 2 is good enough to cover both the phone and the tablet for my uses. The eco-system thing is all hype anyway. I have no issues surviving without iMessage which can easily be substituted with apps like LINE or Facebook Chat. The people who matter to me have them already and if they don’t, they like me enough to install them! PhotoStream was an annoyance and uploading photos to Dropbox is a better solution. I could go on and on but people who gave Android a chance and love it have already said the same things over and over.

This session of Geek Life covers the usual food, tech, and I also went to Mardis Gras in New Orleans as well as take a cruise to the West Caribbean! Don’t worry, I wasn’t stranded on that Carnival Cruise! Continue reading→

Geek Life – July 15th – July 22nd

Sunset in Manhattan Beach

This was a very busy week so I really didn’t have that much time to play with any new technology or gadgets but I finally did manage to upgrade my 5 year old Panasonic 42 inch plasma TV (720p) to a new Samsung 46″ LED 3DTV! Had to make a little time  to review the LG Tone HBS-700 Bluetooth Stereo Headset as well. During the weekend I went and saw Batman – Dark Knight Rises, go to the Hawaiian Festival in Lawndale, catch the sunset at Manhattan Beach, and finally have Chicken and Waffles at Roscoe’s in Pasadena! Still working on remodeling my living room but that should be done next week! Continue reading→

Photography – The Haunted Hallway

The Haunted Hallway

Well it’s not really haunted but it does look like something out of a horror movie. This is one of the hallways in the Pasadena City Hall which has been around since 1927. Been having a lot of fun with my camera and Aperture for the Mac.

Sony NEX C3 – Photos at Night in Pasadena City Hall

Posted on December 23, 2011 by Louie Tran Posted in Gadgets, Photography, Reviews 1 Comment

Testing how the Sony NEX C3 performs at night so I took some photos at the Pasadena City Hall. Out of the 91 photos that I took, only 21 were presentable because of my lack of photography skills!
