Hackintosh – Installing MacOS Mojave on MSI GS65 Stealth – Who needs a MacBook Anymore?

Posted on June 23, 2019 by Louie Tran Posted in Daily News, Geek Life, How To Leave a comment

So after installing a 1TB SSD on to the GS65, I wanted to see what more I can accomplish with this thing. I woke up this morning and wanted to challenge myself by attempting to install Mac OS onto this gaming laptop. I know there are Hackintosh guides on that and it has been done on other laptops and the process looks like a pain in the ass. Then I thought about doing a virtual machine, which although gets a huge degradation in performance, it basically will run within Windows much like how Parallels runs in Mac. My VM of choice was VMWare because it was free.

The process was actually pretty easy, however the challenge was getting FaceTime and iMessage to work because I believe it needs a valid Mac serial number in order for it to work on a Mac computer. It CAN be done but it does involve some gray area things that you have to do but it does work.

I used this guide to install using VMWARE: https://techsviewer.com/install-macos-mojave-vmware-windows/

And this guide to get iMessage and iCloud working: https://github.com/toshmatik/VMWare-iMessage/blob/master/instructions.md

Now that I finally have iMessage on my PC… who needs a Mac anymore?

Logitech 920 Webcam Video Test Review

Posted on June 12, 2016 by Louie Tran Posted in Daily News, Gadgets, Reviews 1 Comment

Just purchased the Logitech 920 to replace my old Logitech 270 webcam. The new 920 features 1080HD video recording capabilities with auto focus, stereo microphones and 12MP photo capturing. Video was created using the 920 as well as the 270 for video and audio comparisons. Unboxing was recorded with the Sony RX100m3. Thanks!

Overall – excellent video quality and the autofocus is a very welcome feature. Audio recording on the other hand, was not as good as I expected. Still a great camera and a decent upgrade from my 270.

iVoler 75W USB Type C Charger Review for Macbook Razer Blade Steath and More

Posted on June 11, 2016 by Louie Tran Posted in Daily News, Gadgets, Reviews 3 Comments

My review on the iVoler… I keep calling it iVolver in the video! Really good alternative to the stock Macbook and Razer Blade Stealth charger as it also allows you to charge 3 other standard USB-A devices on top of the 1 60W USB-C Port.

My only gripe is that you need to buy a separate USB-C cable and you need to make sure you get the right cable that will work with your USB-C device so please do your research on the cables!

MacBook 2015 Review

Posted on August 30, 2015 by Louie Tran Posted in Daily News, Gadgets, Reviews 4 Comments

For awhile, we’ve been waiting for a MacBook Air with a Retina Display so we could have the perfect traveling laptop. The MacBook Air itself is already a great device boasting really good overall performance, unmatched battery life, and a really good size for those who need something thin and light. It is still by far one of the best notebooks for the general consumer. The only problem with the Macbook Air is that the screen resolution of 1440 x 900 (on the 13 inch) seems really outdated with all retina displays that have been out for quite some time.

Apple Watch Quick Review

Posted on August 12, 2015 by Louie Tran Posted in Daily News, Gadgets, Reviews Leave a comment

Likes:

– Beautifully made, well designed
– Easy, interchangeable watchbands
– Excellent screen quality
– Smooth operation
– Every growing app suppprt
– Watch OS2 will offer more improvements

Don’t Like:
– Price is ridiculous. Stainless Steel Moto 360 for $149. Stainless Steel Apple Watch for $1199. Think about it
– Pathetic battery life
– Poorly executed charging concept
– Third party app support needs more development
– Unable to download third party watch faces

Conclusion

It looks great on the wrist, but is the cool factor really worth $1200? Well that’s entirely up to you. It’s more of a status symbol/toy than being an actual smartwatch and yes it comes with fitness tracking software but it’s still too overpriced for what it is in my opinion. Wait for the next generation of Apple Watches where Apple will hopefully improve the current quirks and call it magically brilliant. It is however, the best smart watch available right now and I think the space black stainless steel version is the best looking version of it, which is why I am wearing it just about every day.

Restaurant Review – The Nice Guy – Los Angeles, CA

Located about a block from the Beverly Center on La Cienega Blvd, this place was totally unexpected from the looks of the outside. The unique modern decor is something to be admired along with the trendy mood, people, and atmosphere. But I’m not one to care about those things especially when I walk into a place with an appetite.

Starting off with the maple glazed kale chips and kale salad, I was already sold. Not really a fan of kale and any of that healthy stuff but wow those two dishes were just bursting with flavor. Next round of appetizers we had was the mac and cheese, which had a really interesting twist with egg yolk right in the middle of the mac and cheese! We were wondering what it was that made it taste so good and Chef John-Carlos Kuramoto himself told us that’s what it was.
Next was the parmesan chicken wings. Add that with the marinara sauce and wow, you get  another great dish. Continue reading→

Was up early the other day and wanted to enjoy the Retina display. I usually have this hooked up to a crappy Lenovo monitor.
