Geek Life March 14th to May 5th

Droid!

It’s been crazy over the past few months and I worked on quite a handful of reviews. In doing that, I’ve rotated through some notebooks, smartphones and other gadgets going from an iPhone 5, to a Note 2, back to an iPhone 5 and now I am rockin’ an HTC One 64GB Developer Edition! I’ve also gone through some notebooks and tablets too such as going from an iPad Mini to a Microsoft Surface Pro, an Asus Transformer, Razer Edge Gaming Tablet to a Retina iPad, and now I am back to the iPad Mini once again. And on the notebook side, I went from my MacBook Air 11″ to a Dell XPS 12 and now I’m loving the MacBook Pro 13″ with Retina Display! I like to play around with the latest and greatest and I probably have an addiction where I will never be satisfied with what I currently have. At this very moment, my trio of the MacBook Pro 13″ Retina, iPad Mini LTE, and my new HTC One will do for now. I still plan to keep the iPhone 5 because as my backup and “in-between” phones to use while I look for something better! Again, lots of tech and lots of food within these two months! Galaxy Note II Review

Posted on December 10, 2012 by Louie Tran Posted in Daily News, Gadgets, Reviews 2 Comments

When Samsung first launched the original massive Galaxy Note last year which sported a 5.3-inch screen, my first question was “What the hell were they thinking?!” It was too large for a smartphone and too small for a tablet so it didn’t fall into any of those categories. Adding more to this already taboo product was that Samsung highly promoted the S-Pen which was the stylus for the device which went away as soon Steve Jobs claimed, “if you see a stylus, they blew it.”

Despite the Note’s enormous size, the phablet gained a huge fan base of users who found the phone to be very practical as it effectively eliminated the need for having to carry around a phone and a tablet. The S-Pen was actually one of the Note’s greatest selling points as Samsung lead a successful marketing campaign that sold millions of units to artists, tech enthusiasts, and road warriors alike.

The Galaxy Note II has gone through somewhat of a redesign and an upgrade with more powerful hardware. The Note II closely resembles the Galaxy S3 and now sports a quad-core Exynos processor, double the RAM, an even LARGER display and an updated S-Pen with more functions. Is this enough to replace your smart phone and your tablet? Let’s find out!

iPhone 5 Review

Posted on September 25, 2012 by Louie Tran Posted in Daily News, Gadgets, Reviews 1 Comment

Apple has revolutionized and dominated the smart phone market since the original iPhone debuted in 2007 drawing in millions of sales just days after each release. The first model brought us mobile web and music like we’ve never seen before. The iPhone 3G took apps to another level, while the 3GS boosted speed and gaming, the iPhone 4 boasted a gorgeous retina screen and industrial design, and the 4S was an enhancement of everything that was great about the 4 with a better camera, speed, and Siri.

Quite a bit has changed this past year in the smartphone market and a lot of Apple’s competitors have aggressively stepped up on their game with impressive products such as the Samsung Galaxy S III (which I really enjoy using) and the upcoming Nokia Lumia 920 running Windows Phone 8 (which I am really looking forward to). What is Apple bringing to the table in 2012 to compete with these?

We were already expecting a longer screen, a better camera, a thinner design, LTE capabilities, a faster processor, etc… and guess what? We got EXACTLY what we were expecting. Many will argue that Apple may have lost its edge on innovation in this incarnation of the iPhone. But what more can you possibly do to make one the best phones even better? Let’s take a look at this year’s iPhone 5…

The Geek’s Top Gadgets of Summer 2012

Posted on June 28, 2012 by Louie Tran Posted in Daily News, Gadgets, Reviews, Workspaces 1 Comment

This has been one crazy year as I have been changing my gadgets like how women change their shoes and purses! I would say that in the past 6 months, almost all of my gadgets have been refreshed and a lot of it has to do with the way I work. I used to work at home and in the office more often but now I’m out in the field quite a bit so I need a lot of power (I’m talking both batteries and system performance) on the go these days. 2011 wasn’t really an impressive year, but 2012 has been a great leap for mobile tech for both work and play. This is what I have been working with recently… Continue reading→
