Apple Watch Series 3 Unboxing and First Impressions Review

Posted on September 25, 2017 by Louie Tran Posted in Daily News, Gadgets, Reviews 2 Comments

My first impressions unboxing review of the Apple Watch Series 3. I’ve only used it for a few days so I haven’t fully utilized it yet. Be on the look out for a full review in the future. So far, I think it is a good upgrade from the Series 0 and the performance improvements have been significant. I ran into a few LTE issues in the beginning but they have been resolved.

iPhone 6s Review

Overview

What do the iPhone 6 and the 6s have in common? Almost everything. What has changed? Well according to Apple, “the only thing that’s changed is EVERYTHING.” Not to speak in riddles but that more or less sums it up for this year’s iPhone in a sense. Last year, around this time, Apple introduced the iPhone 6 and the iPhone 6 Plus to compete with the larger variety of screen sizes that were offered by the completion. One of the biggest selling points of Android is that the screen was larger and quite a bit of people avoided getting an iPhone because no one wanted to let go of the larger screen sized phones. As you can imagine, Apple has won over those people who wished the iPhone had a bigger screen.
Now we fast forward to this year, we get the iPhone 6s that improves everything from the iPhone 6 such as a faster processor, 12MP camera, and other new features. But is that enough reason to upgrade from an iPhone 6? Let’s find out.

The iPad 4 debuted in 2012, but was discontinued last fall on the release of the iPad Air. That changed last month, when Apple brought its fourth-generation tablet back as its new lower-end offering.

The iPad 4 starts at $400, while a similarly-specced iPad Air is $500… Which raises the question: is it worth paying $100 extra for the new version? Let’s find out!

Geek Life June to September 2013

Posted on October 6, 2013 by Louie Tran Posted in Daily News, Geek Life 3 Comments

I haven’t logged onto this site in months! With a combination of just getting married, promoted at work, and playing with a lot of new gear within the past 90 days, my schedule has been pretty full! This is just one of those rare Sundays where I can finally sit down and write about whatever I want to. I hope I get more days like this!

On a hot summer day, the beach is one of the top two places for me to go. The other option is to stay indoors and watch anime 😉 Continue reading→

Nexus 7 2013 Review

Posted on August 6, 2013 by Louie Tran Posted in Daily News, Gadgets, Reviews 2 Comments

20167

The original Google Nexus 7 that debuted last year showed us that premium products don’t have to have premium prices. At $200, the 7-inch Android tablet stood up to its pricier competitors such as the Apple iPad Mini and with top-of-the line specs at the time. To this day, the first-generation Nexus 7 is still a favorite to those looking for a small tablet. Not content with that, Google has further upped its game this year with a new Nexus 7 sporting all-around improvements like a faster processor and a new 4.3 Android OS, but priced about $30. Has Google given us a boring upgrade? Or is the Nexus 7 a winning dynasty? Let’s find out!

Apple’s WWDC clashes with the gaming industry’s E3 made it a tough choice on which event to participate in. To continue the tradition of me covering everything Apple, it was obvious that I would be the one to do the write up of the World Wide Developer Conference in San Francisco! Whether you love or hate them, Apple has set the bar in the computer and mobile device industry with their line of iPads, iPhones, and MacBooks and the competition always watches closely on where Apple goes next. This year’s highly anticipated WWDC had high expectations and Apple has pretty much delivered for the most part along with a few surprises here and there. Here’s a quick round up of WWDC 2013…

Samsung Galaxy S4 First Impressions

Posted on May 12, 2013 by Louie Tran Posted in Daily News, Gadgets, Reviews 1 Comment

Hands on with Samsung’s hottest smartphone!

Note from editor: Please keep in mind that this is just my First Impressions and is not a FULL REVIEW. I know there is A LOT to cover on this feature packed phone so I want to give the Galaxy S4 as much a fair chance as possible. Please don’t flame me just yet!

The Samsung Galaxy S4 is one of the most anticipated phones this year along with the HTC One and the upcoming iPhone 5S (or whatever the next iPhone is going to be) and is the follow up to the best selling Galaxy S3. Packed with a boatload of new features such as Air Gestures, infrared TV Remote, pedomoter, etc… on top of a more powerful 1.9Ghz Snapdragon Processor (or Octocore Exynos if you get the international model) 2GB RAM, and 13-megapixel camera just to name a few. The S4 does just about everything, but one the tough questions it must face is that does it do them well? I spent a few days with the Galaxy S4 and am going to give my initial impressions. It’s not possible to review this phone over the weekend since there are just so many things to cover over this feature freak of nature!

Geek Life March 14th to May 5th

Droid!

It’s been crazy over the past few months and I worked on quite a handful of reviews. In doing that, I’ve rotated through some notebooks, smartphones and other gadgets going from an iPhone 5, to a Note 2, back to an iPhone 5 and now I am rockin’ an HTC One 64GB Developer Edition! I’ve also gone through some notebooks and tablets too such as going from an iPad Mini to a Microsoft Surface Pro, an Asus Transformer, Razer Edge Gaming Tablet to a Retina iPad, and now I am back to the iPad Mini once again. And on the notebook side, I went from my MacBook Air 11″ to a Dell XPS 12 and now I’m loving the MacBook Pro 13″ with Retina Display! I like to play around with the latest and greatest and I probably have an addiction where I will never be satisfied with what I currently have. At this very moment, my trio of the MacBook Pro 13″ Retina, iPad Mini LTE, and my new HTC One will do for now. I still plan to keep the iPhone 5 because as my backup and “in-between” phones to use while I look for something better! Again, lots of tech and lots of food within these two months! Nest Thermostat Review

Posted on May 4, 2013 by Louie Tran Posted in Daily News, Gadgets, Reviews 1 Comment

Screen-Shot-2012-12-08-at-3.02.40-PM

A few months ago during the winter, I took a Caribbean Cruise and had a house sitter to feed the cat and check the mail. When I came back from the cruise, my house was hot like an oven and it turns out that the house sitter forgot to turn off the heater for the two weeks I was gone! When I got my electric bill, it was a whopping $200+ and I normally pay less than $90 for two months on my electricity!!!

I heard a lot of things about the Nest Thermostat, which is basically a smart thermostat which can control your central air-conditioning or heater from your smartphone. It seemed like a smart solution where I can control my AC from anywhere in the house, or anywhere in the WORLD if I wanted to. But at a staggering $249, is this really worth it?

Apple MacBook Pro 13-inch Retina Display Review

Posted on April 3, 2013 by Louie Tran Posted in Daily News, Gadgets, Reviews 7 Comments

Macbook-Pro-13-inch-Retina

When the first 13-inch MacBook Pro Retina was released in Q4 of 2012, it received a mix response. It was praised for being one of the most beautiful 13-inch notebooks to date with an amazing retina display, however it was highly criticized for being way overpriced starting at $1,699 with only 128GB of storage with no dedicated graphics card. Just recently, Apple did a refresh of their notebooks and the 13-inch MacBook Pro received a slight upgrade in hardware and most surprisingly a $200 reduction in price. Is the 2013 13-inch MacBook Pro now worth it? Let’s find out!
