Christmas came pretty early for geeks everywhere with the release of the highly anticipated Xbox One and Playstation 4. Earlier in November, Apple launched the new iPad Air and the Retina iPad Mini just a few weeks after. If you’re a hardcore geek/gamer/nerd etc… it has been a hell of an expensive month. Not too long ago, Apple released the iPhone 5S, Samsung with the Note 3, Sony with the Xperia Z1, and now Google/LG with the new Nexus 5 running KitKat 4.4 (now 4.4.2 at the time of this writing)! I must say that it has also been an expensive 90 some days and trying to find the best mobile devices comes with hefty price tags. Let’s get on with November shall we? Continue reading

Geek Life October 2013
It’s been an eventful October and I’m surprised that I actually have time to sit down and put this post together. Lots of new gear this month not including the iPhone 5s I barely picked up in late September such as the new MacBook Air 2013, a police radar detector, Canon S110, and the iPad Air on November 1st (review coming soon!). We also went hiking twice in October thanks to the nice weather change in Southern California where it’s not as scorching hot as it was during the summertime! Continue reading
Geek Life June to September 2013
I haven’t logged onto this site in months! With a combination of just getting married, promoted at work, and playing with a lot of new gear within the past 90 days, my schedule has been pretty full! This is just one of those rare Sundays where I can finally sit down and write about whatever I want to. I hope I get more days like this!
On a hot summer day, the beach is one of the top two places for me to go. The other option is to stay indoors and watch anime 😉 Continue reading
Patio Workspace!
Sometimes, the day is too nice to be indoors so I bring out the 13-inch MacBook Retina and work outside! Sure it’s no comparison to the 27-inch iMac I have in the office but it’s always good to get some fresh air every now and then. If I wanted to, I could just do most of my work off the Samsung Galaxy S4 and throw my feet on the table, but since these are work hours, I have to be a little bit more work conscious even if this is at home!
THISISMYWORKSPACE.COM Domain Acquired!
I’ve been so busy as of late and haven’t had time to do any reviews or simple posts. Just recently, we (I) acquired THISISMYWORKSPACE.COM which is a domain name that I thought of when walking home after having a couple of Cajun Fish Tacos over at Wahoo’s. For years, The Geeks Office really never had any direction so it was really hard to figure out what I was going to do with this domain. For now I am going to keep things as they are but focus more on the workspaces. I enjoy looking at how people’s have theirs setup whether it be at work, at home, or even on the floor. It doesn’t really matter. I also just setup a Flickr group called This is My Workspace where you can go ahead and feel free to post your workspace and I will feature it on the site. Continue reading
Geek Life March 14th to May 5th
It’s been crazy over the past few months and I worked on quite a handful of reviews. In doing that, I’ve rotated through some notebooks, smartphones and other gadgets going from an iPhone 5, to a Note 2, back to an iPhone 5 and now I am rockin’ an HTC One 64GB Developer Edition! I’ve also gone through some notebooks and tablets too such as going from an iPad Mini to a Microsoft Surface Pro, an Asus Transformer, Razer Edge Gaming Tablet to a Retina iPad, and now I am back to the iPad Mini once again. And on the notebook side, I went from my MacBook Air 11″ to a Dell XPS 12 and now I’m loving the MacBook Pro 13″ with Retina Display! I like to play around with the latest and greatest and I probably have an addiction where I will never be satisfied with what I currently have. At this very moment, my trio of the MacBook Pro 13″ Retina, iPad Mini LTE, and my new HTC One will do for now. I still plan to keep the iPhone 5 because as my backup and “in-between” phones to use while I look for something better! Again, lots of tech and lots of food within these two months! Continue reading
The Geeks Desk 12/02/2012
Been quite busy as of late and haven’t been able to post as much. Best place to follow me would be on Instagram by following @louievtran or on Twitter @thegeeksoffice
I’ve been doing quite a bit of reviews in the past month going from the iPad Mini, iPad 4, and just recently reviewed the Samsung Galaxy Note II. One of the reasons why I love freelance writing is because I can write and review what I want but Q4 of this year has been hectic with a lot of new gadgets coming out.
Anyway, my recent desk setup is a bit different this time since I replaced the Apple Thunderbolt Display with a 27-inch iMac. My workspace has been a mess as of late and I need to get a new desk soon!
Geek Life – August 1st – August 12th

Galaxy S3 playing Metal Slug 2 while hooked up to the TV with PS3 controller! Ever see an iPhone do that? NO!
Quite a few activities within these two weeks leaving me little time to update this site. I know I say that every time but it’s true! I went out for a hike in Burbank, CA, went to the Dodgers game in a VIP suite for work, and of course had great food as always. I did get an HDMI cable for the Galaxy S3 to run emulators off of it and onto the plasma TV while having it paired to a PS3 controller! Continue reading
Geek Life – July 23rd to July 31st
I know I’m a bit late on my Geek Life postings as I have been busy with work and been out and about almost every single day. Even on weekends there’s always something to do especially in the city of Pasadena. Went to a wedding, then to the 626 Night Market, and then caught a show at the Pasadena Ice House featuring Jen Kober from Curb Your Enthusiasm all in one day! I hardly have any time for anime, games, and gadgets anymore!
Geek Life – The Geek in July 1st to July 14th

Celebrating July 4th in -4F Weather in Los Angeles! I guess the heat caused Yahoo’s computers to freak out
Quite a few highlights in the first few weeks of July starting from Independence Day, Anime Expo, and the release of the Samsung Galaxy S3 on the American LTE networks. Of course there were other things happening in between as well such as work, food, and life in general! I was also testing the HTC One X and the Samsung Galaxy S3 to compare how it stands up to the best phone of 2011. So far I have been embracing Android’s Ice Cream Sandwich while waiting on Apple’s next generation iPhone. So far there hasn’t been anything that impressive of iOS6 and I am more excited about Android’s JellyBean. Continue reading
