Tokyo Xanadu EX+ on PC and PS4 is Awesome

Posted on June 20, 2018 by Louie Tran Posted in Daily News, Games, Geek Life Leave a comment

I really enjoyed playing Tokyo Xanadu EX+ by Aksys! It took me about two months to complete this game. If you are a fan of anime or JRPGs, totally get this. Here’s a quick rundown

  • Story: Town is under attack by “Greeds” which are like spirits or demons from another dimension. The Hero (Kou) witnesses a classmate gets caught in the middle of a classmate fighting one and realizes she wields special abilities like him too. They meet more people like them and form a super natural investigations group hunting them down throughout the game. Lots of typical anime stuff. Apparently all the girls have a thing for the hero. I don’t want to give too much away but it was the story that really drew me to the game.
  • Audio/Sound: Music is synthesized and simplistic. Can’t say too much about it. It’s not bad but won’t blow you away. Voice acting is in Japanese and it’s great if you’re a fan of anime.
  • Graphics: Like the audio, graphics won’t blow you away. Even though it’s on the PS4, it looks like a PS3 game and you definitely won’t need a 1080Ti graphics card to run this game on the PC
  • Game Play: Not too complex which is great. Battle system is like an Action RPG so you get to do some hacking and slashing, aerial moves, and other badass power moves. I don’t feel it gets too repetitive killing enemies. Overall the game isn’t that difficult and the puzzles are easy to solve. The game is big on developing relationships with other playable characters and some NPCs and you get rewarded on them.
  • Ending: There’s more than one ending to this game. Well you get the normal ending that makes you go WTF. BUT, you get to redo that ending scene after you beat the game and see the true ending, without having to start over (thank god). And once you complete that, there’s a little more to the story in the EX+ part of the game. You also unlock another mode called New+ if you want to play again

Gaming Laptop Recommendation – The Razer Blade (GeForce GTX 1060) 14″ HD Gaming Laptop (7th Gen Intel Core i7, 16GB RAM, 512GB SSD) – VR Ready

Posted on March 26, 2017 by Louie Tran Posted in Daily News, Gadgets Leave a comment

Looking for the best gaming laptop out there that doesn’t weigh and can play the latest games such as Mass Effect Andromeda or Nier: Automata? I’d totally recommend the Razer Blade 14. This thing is a beast but doesn’t look like a beast. It’s smaller than the MacBook Pro 2016 15 inch but definitely made more for gamers. It’s also professional looking enough to take to work and get some work done. Multitask between Outlook, Excel, Word, and some games with ease.

  • NVIDIA GeForce GTX 1060, 512GB PCIe SSD and 16GB RAM provides desktop-grade performance in a laptop for even the most intensive gaming – even on the Oculus Rift and HTC Vive
  • extremely thin (0.7″) CNC aluminum chassis, weighing in only at 4.16 lbs
  • Get the best gaming experience with an incredible 14″ IPS Full HD display
  • World’s most advanced gaming notebook with Chroma anti-ghosting keyboard and Killer Wireless AC
  • Thunderbolt 3 – The one port that does it all with Thunderbolt, USB, and DisplayPort over USB-C

Review: MOGA Pro Power and MOGA Hero Power

Posted on November 16, 2013 by Louie Tran Posted in Daily News, Gadgets, Reviews 3 Comments

MOGA_DigitalLogo_Combination_Mark_Digital

I’ve been a fan of the MOGA game controller concept since it was first released about a year ago for the Android phones. The XBOX-like controller turns your phone into a fully functional game console with it’s built in retractable grip that holds your phone at a comfortable viewing angle for portable play. I’ve reviewed  the first generation controller (MOGA Pocket) in the past and it’s quite effective and well thought out. As most of us know, playing games on your smartphone, especially graphic intensive games are a huge strain on battery life and having a phone without any power left in this modern world is no fun at all.

MOGA tries to solve this problem with the release of the MOGA Pro Power and the Hero Power by being able to charge your phone using the controller’s power source. Is this the right solution? That’s what we are going to find out!

Geek Life June to September 2013

Posted on October 6, 2013 by Louie Tran Posted in Daily News, Geek Life 3 Comments

I haven’t logged onto this site in months! With a combination of just getting married, promoted at work, and playing with a lot of new gear within the past 90 days, my schedule has been pretty full! This is just one of those rare Sundays where I can finally sit down and write about whatever I want to. I hope I get more days like this!

On a hot summer day, the beach is one of the top two places for me to go. The other option is to stay indoors and watch anime 😉 Continue reading→

Electronic Apps For Sports Fans

Posted on August 12, 2013 by Louie Tran Posted in Daily News 1 Comment

Football fan with ball and trumpet

We hear a lot of news these days about how different gadgets and electronic apps are helping with various aspects of life: entertainment, organization, general utility, and on a larger scale school and business. But what about sports? The fact is, there are electronic apps and services geared toward just about every hobby and method of entertainment available, and the same is true with regard to sports fans. Here’s a look at a few apps no sports fan should be without .

ESPN ScoreCenter

Tired of checking Safari or Chrome for scores and basic information on your favorite teams? ESPN ScoreCenter entirely eliminates the need to do so. Basically, it’s actually a very simple app that brings ESPN news, scores and updates to your mobile device for the quick access and constant contact you crave. You can also set alerts to notify you when games are starting, when scores change, etc.

Yahoo! Fantasy Sports – Football

There are of course apps and online services for fantasy play in different sports, but football remains the most popular, and most heavily utilized. Particularly with the NFL season just around the corner, this app is a must-have! It allows you to check your league lobby, drop and add players, conduct trades, set your roster and check your scores, all on a single app.

Betfair Everywhere

This betting app from BetFair is a convenient tool for anyone who likes to wager on favorite sports. Basically, it puts your sports book in your pocket, allowing you to view and compare odds with ease. WIth this app installed you can also place bets through your mobile devices, and of course track how your bets are doing.

WatchESPN

It’s ESPN again, but this app is actually designed to provide live viewing for games, as well as highlights and recordings of games that have already happened. The app is free, but to actually view live content, you’ll have to sign in through your cable provider. So long as your home cable provider is compatible with the WatchESPN app (of course, most major networks are), you’ll be able to watch live content from your phone or tablet.

MLB At Bat

It’s summer, and that means a good MLB app is well worth mentioning. This app gives you awesome access to your favorite MLB teams for a very affordable monthly subscription. You can receive box offices, scores and headlines, and even radio for live games for just $2.99 a month (or a one time fee of $9.99 that buys the service for the whole year).

Razer Edge Pro Gaming Tablet Review

With the launch of Windows 8, there have been some really decent tablets such as the Microsoft Surface Pro, Lenovo Yoga, and the Dell XPS 12 but none of these are meant for any type of hardcore gaming. Sure you can play Angry Birds or Fruit Ninja, but wouldn’t you rather have Devil May Cry or Tomb Raider on the go instead?

Razer has introduced its gaming tablet, the Razer Edge, which is more or less the Surface Pro on steroids packed with some powerful hardware that will cater to those who wish to take their desktop PC games on the go with the least amount of compromise as possible.

Is the world ready for a device like this? Or should gamers stick to heavier laptops or continue to launch birds at pigs on their mobile device for portable gaming? Let’s find out!

Final Fantasy All the Bravest Review

Posted on February 17, 2013 by Louie Tran Posted in Apps, Daily News, Games, Reviews Leave a comment

ff-all-the-bravest1

If you’re a fan of RPGs, chances are you’re definitely a fan of Final Fantasy. The music, the story, and the characters from each game has touched the hearts of gamers for about two decades. Square Enix has ported a few titles over to the iOS platform, which have done quite well such as Final Fantasy I and II, and Final Fantasy Tactics.

So here we have Final Fantasy All the Bravest. You take all the final fantasy classes in all the classic games such as the dark mage, white mage, archers, dragoons and you put them against all the enemies in an Active (turn-based) Time Battle with up to 30 fighters on the screen. Sounds like an awesome concept right? Well that’s where the awesomeness stops.

Sony Playstation Vita Review

Posted on February 21, 2012 by Louie Tran Posted in Daily News, Gadgets, Games, Reviews 6 Comments

In a world of iPhones and iTouches now dominating the mobile gaming market with 99 cent games, what sense does it make now in going out and spending $249+ on a portable console such as the newly released Playstation Vita? Why would anyone want to carry ANOTHER device just to play games while their smartphone will do just about everything else? The Nintendo 3DS so far has been a failure. Let’s see if the PSVITA has a place in people’s pockets for portable gaming… Continue reading→
