Samsung’s hottest new phone is now on sale for $649 on Amazon. No guarantee on how long that deal will last but these current retail at $720+ so I’d jump on it now. The Galaxy S8 is arguable the best looking phones out right now, as well as having one of the best cameras trumping the iPhone 7 according to Mac World!

Samsung Galaxy Note 7 – First Impressions Review

Posted on August 20, 2016 by Louie Tran Posted in Daily News, Gadgets, Geek Life, Reviews 2 Comments

galaxy-note7_curve_phone

My first impressions (less than 24 hours) coming from an iPhone 6S Plus and Nexus 6P before that. These are just my Notes (yes I meant to do that) written so far for an upcoming video / review so I apologize if it looks messy.

  • Design is incredible. Hard to believe that this has a larger screen that the Plus and is physically smaller and lighter
  • Always on Display seemed gimicky at first but it makes great desk clock and I already find it useful
  • Fingerprint scanner is as fast as the iPhone’s but I like the Nexus 6P’s execution better
  • Touch Wiz has been a pretty smooth experience. If you hate the cartoony looking icons, just go to the theme store and download a theme. I am using Material, which was free.
  • I was a little squeamish in shutting off iMessage at first, but there are only two people I really iMessage anyway. Everyone else has WhatsApp, Facebook, and Hangouts. I got over it in 30 minutes.
  • Bloatware on the T-Mobile variant isn’t so bad, but it still sucks. At least you can easily disable it
  • I use both OSX and Windows with Chrome as my main browser. Chrome does an excellent job in integrating the experience (continuity) between your phone and Mac/PC. I have a bunch of tabs open in Chrome on my Mac, and then when I need to take a dump or something, I can just continue off what I’m reading on my phone
  • Notification light: It changes everything.

Canany Action Camera Sport First Impressions Review – GoPro Knockoff as good as the real thing?

Posted on June 8, 2016 by Louie Tran Posted in Daily News, Gadgets, Reviews 2 Comments

My first impressions on the Canany Action Camera GoPro Knockoff! I haven’t really used it that much yet but so far, for something under $60, it’s actually quite impressive and comes with all the basic accessories you’ll ever need for it including an extra battery. It is a 12MP camera and records video at 1080 HD at 30fps and 720 at 60fps. Waterproof case really works and is compatible with several GoPro accessories!

Sony Xperia Z2 Review

Posted on April 16, 2014 by Louie Tran Posted in Daily News, Gadgets, Reviews Leave a comment

Sony’s Xperia flagship phones usually have the most up to date hardware and best designs, and the Xperia Z1 offered excellent performance and a stylish look. Unfortunately the camera on the Z1 fell short against other smartphones, and the TFT TRILUMINOS display looked washed out at the wrong angles.

The Sony Xperia Z2 shipped about six months after the Z1 launch, complete with identical camera hardware and slight improvements under the hood. The Z2 screen is also bigger, and it sports an IPS display, along with the latest Snapdragon 801 processor and 3GB of RAM.

Will the Sony Xperia Z2 disappoint like the Z1? Let’s find out.

HTC One M8 First Impressions

Posted on April 13, 2014 by Louie Tran Posted in Daily News, Gadgets, Photography 1 Comment

My Phones as of 4-14-2014

Added an M8 to my collection. I really need therapy

Just took a few photos so far and the camera overall is pretty good. I wouldn’t say fantastic but not as bad as people would fear. Love the form factor and how fast and responsive the phone is. Button placement is somewhat awkward but I got used to it pretty quick. As some of you have said, that area where the HTC logo is at is a waste of space.

Here are the first photos I have taken with this phone:

Nexus 5 Quick Review

Posted on December 30, 2013 by Louie Tran Posted in Daily News, Gadgets, Reviews 3 Comments

Nexus_5_Leaked_Press_Render_Google_Server_01

I’ve been jumping from device to device within the past few months and I finally stumbled on to a Nexus 5. To be honest I’ve never been a fan of vanilla Android and really didn’t care too much about Google’s Nexus line of smartphones. Earlier in December, I finally decided to take a chance on the Nexus 5 and just play around with it since I was pretty much dead set on using the Note 3. Fast forward to today, I’ve sold my Note 3, Xperia Z1 and now have the Nexus 5 as my main phone of choice.

Instead of going too far into detail about specs, benchmarks, and Android 4.4.2 Kit Kat since they have all been discussed to death on several review sites, I’m just going to do a quick write up… Continue reading→
