Geek Life November

Christmas came pretty early for geeks everywhere with the release of the highly anticipated Xbox One and Playstation 4. Earlier in November, Apple launched the new iPad Air and the Retina iPad Mini just a few weeks after. If you’re a hardcore geek/gamer/nerd etc… it has been a hell of an expensive month. Not too long ago, Apple released the iPhone 5S, Samsung with the Note 3, Sony with the Xperia Z1, and now Google/LG with the new Nexus 5 running KitKat 4.4 (now 4.4.2 at the time of this writing)! I must say that it has also been an expensive 90 some days and trying to find the best mobile devices comes with hefty price tags. Let’s get on with November shall we?

Picked up the new iPad Air. Apple by far makes the best full-sized tablets. I got rid of the mini because the bigger screen made more sense for me. No one can touch Apple in this realm, but if you want to go for the smaller 7-inch range tablet, go for the Nexus 7!

Here it is unboxed, not too different like every iPad before it but it’s really light for it’s size. It’s actually closer to the weight of the iPad Mini than the iPad 4!

While I’ve been enjoying my new iPad Air which I reserved online like any other intelligent person would, there was a fair sized crowd of people waiting outside at night to get one. Have you ever waited in line for an Apple product?!

Growing up in Guam and going to school in Hawaii, this was a common meal for us islanders so now living in California, I’m glad that Hawaiian fast food joints aren’t too hard to find. I gotta have my occasional dose of Spam, eggs, and rice. This is comfort food to me!

Weather was starting to cool down with summer already ending do we decided to have a BBQ out in a park in Pasadena while it was still warm. Argentinean style is the best!

Saw this shit when I was in San Luis Obispo. Made me laugh but I guess I’m easily amused.

Speaking of San Luis Obispo, I always stop by Splash’s every time I go there. Their bread bowl clam chowder is to die for.

Country fried steak and eggs at the Apple Farm is good too. This always makes the trip worth going!

The iPhone 5S is a really good phone in general but the small 4-inch screen was becoming a strain on my eyes so I decided to get the Next Big Thing which is the Note 3. It is by far one of the best smartphones I have ever owned. Under the hood, it’s got the best Android hardware, has a decent camera, excellent battery life, and the screen is amazing. On top of all that, you can run most apps off the SD Card and it has a replaceable battery. You can read my review here.

Here’s a side by side look between the iPad Air, iPad Mini, Note 3, and the iPhone 5s!

Here’s another view.

Picked up a spare battery and charger for the Note 3. It already has an all day battery life so why not add another and not have to worry about having to tether this to the wall for a few days?

Note 3 does a nice job in capturing a Double Double with Fries at In n Out!

Low light photos look great too. Here’s a shot of one of Karo’s fruit arrangements.

FIRE COW!!! Saw this parked at Best Buy and thought it was funny at the time.

Both of these new Moga Power controllers came in for me to review. It’s posted here. They definitely enhance the smartphone gaming experience and these controllers work very well!

Reliving the good old days by playing Pacman on my Note 3!

I was pretty curious about the Sony Xperia Z1 and was interested in how well this thing takes photos. I wanted an awesome camera without having to deal with another eco-system such as the Nokia Lumia 1020 which runs Windows Phone so I found a really good deal on the Xperia Z1 on eBay. Unfortunately, the camera in Superior Auto mode was pretty disappointing and unpredictable. Manual photos work great if you play with the settings and you have to tailor it to each lighting or photo scenario but if I wanted to do that, I’d take an dSLR. The average consumer wants a good point and shoot on camera phones anyway. You can read my review on the Xperia Z1 here!

Love McDonald’s breakfast. Who doesn’t?

PS4 with Call of Duty Ghosts came in. Wish I had more time to play it but I love Call of Duty and am hooked on Resogun for the PS4. Will have a review posted up sometime in the future. Just don’t have the time recently.

We really ned more Chick-fil-A’s in Southern California. I would eat this every day if this was in my neighborhood!

Love coming home to a steak dinner after a long days work. Karo grilling it in the kitchen

And there you have it! Another awesome meal!

Thought about eating the cat but we decided to let her sleep instead

Looky here! The Xbox One came in! Time to unbox!

Kinect games are great but so far not enough titles to really capture my interest. I have a blast playing Dead Rising but that’s about it. Like the PS4, it still needs time and the system itself is pretty buggy. Even the HDMI pass-thru feature stutters and has issues. Give it six more months and we will revisit the PS4 and Xbox One debate. It’s to early to judge at this point but I find myself playing the PS4 more.

IMG_0642-imp

Mainly because I use remote play a lot on my PS4. Love playing Resogun or even Call of Duty Ghosts anywhere in my house!

Went to Tasty Garden in Arcadia for Thanksgiving brunch. Wish the Z1 camera did a better job in capturing photos because this picture doesn’t do the food any justice.

Went to grab some dessert right across the street at JJ Bakery. Their pastries are some of the best in town!

Ever wonder what french fries and clam chowder would taste like? Heaven. You can try it out at House of Big Fish and Ice Cold Beer in Redondo Beach. Seriously, that’s the name of the place!

After lunch, we decided to get some gelato… but it wasn’t enough!

2013-11-30 16.22.22-imp

We drove further down south all the way to San Diego to visit Extraordinary Desserts

These companies launched some awesome products this year. The feature of these smart phones is quite useful and make our life much easier. The only thing that makes it impossible for us to attain these devices is their high price.
