So quick impressions so far on the MacBook 14 Pro…
The specs I have are the MacBook Pro 14 M1 Max / 64GB RAM / 2TB SSD.
It’s powerful for what it is and what it can do. For the average consumer, the screen would be its biggest selling point. It’s fast, bright and beautiful.
For the applications that I use it for, running proprietary applications in different operating systems in VMs and editing in FCPX – it’s amazing. It smokes my Razer Blade Advanced where it’s not even funny and fair. The Pro runs SOOOO quiet and I can never hear the fan.
This however – makes me really appreciate the MacBook Air M1 even more because guess what – it can do all that and it can do it well and 90% of the time I won’t even push it that hard to even show noticeable slowdown.
If you were to put the screen at an equal level to the MacBook Air M1 and compare it to the spec’d out MacBook Pro running your daily applications – I don’t think anyone will notice a difference.
Even though it’s not as thin as the previous MacBooks, that’s fine because there is a purposes to the added thickness which is better cooling for how powerful the device is as well as the added ports. Really nice throwback to the older MacBooks before the dreaded Touch Bar era.
The ports are nice to have but at this point – everyone is so trained on the dongle life already that they will just plug in their USB-C hub straight into the Mac to charge and connect all devices using one cable anyway.
Built in speakers, amazing and I wouldn’t expect anything less. 1080 camera, also a nice addition but I think it does necessary over processing adding that “beauty face” effect.
Overall, really great laptop for anyone looking for desktop performance in a small package that will last them over the years. I could say this would easily go 5-7 years. If you are also looking for a nice end of year tax write off – this is it right here lol. But seriously – a lot of people would be just fine with the MacBook Air.
I’ll be working on a video review as I continue to use this long term but I am very much liking it so far!
