If the entertainment center in your living room looks like mine (pictured above) or worse, then you don’t need to feel alone. When you have your TV, Digital Cable Box, and videogame console, it’s more than enough to create a disgusting mess of wires. I’ve always envied people with clean setups where the wiring is practically invisible and I’ve always told myself that I would clean mine up… yeah that was a year ago.
I went to Office Depot and picked up these cable ties for $5. Came in a pack of 50 so I figured that should be more than plenty!
Here’s a look of my entertainment center BEFORE I started. The rat is scared and knows I’ve about to destroy his home!
A look at my surge protector. Notice how dirty and dusty the old Wii Fit Board is!
A close look at the dust and dirt on the floor. LOVE IT!!!
Both the coax cable and the extension cable are both parallel to each other so I decided to start here.
This is what it looks like now. Much neater and safer!!!
I started making way way from the left to the right. What I SHOULD have done was unplug everything and plug everything back in one at a time. Oh well, I’m already this far into it so I just kept on tying cables together!
Sort of a bird’s eye view of how it’s starting to look…
Rat is gone! Cables have been cleared up and I vacuumed the dust in the back. Cabling still looks a little bit messy but at least it’s all to one side instead of taking up the whole floor. I could have done a much better job planning this out like having the cables go along the edges of the furniture but I didn’t think about that till the end!
Job completed! It does look a lot more cleaner, but again I could have done a much better job. Should have planned better but this is definitely an improvement!
Duration: 45 minutes
Materials: Zip ties and scissors
- Should have been planned out better instead of trying to wing it!
- Should have unplugged everything and plug back in one by one!
- Aligning the cables on the edge of the furniture of window frame would have looked a lot cleaner
