I love my gadgets and usually have something new all the time but there is a select few of them that I just can’t live without. There was one point where I had up to 3 notebooks, two smartphones, and a media player! I usually change out my gear every 6-8 months to have the latest and greatest (yeah I know, it’s a bad habit and addiction) but now I believe I have the perfect symphony of gadgets to go about my day. 1. MacBook Pro 13″ (Mid 2010) – I know that there’s a refresh of MacBook Pros but I’m not too impressed with the specs of the 13″ model and the 15″ and 17″ are a bit overkill for my needs. I need the portability but I also need the power too and the MacBook Pro 13″ is a perfect combination of both. Even though it’s still a year old, I still feel that the purchase of this C2D Macbook Pro 13″ was one of the best decisions I have made. The build quality, portability/weight, 7-10 hour battery life, and hardware has made my most favorite notebooks I have ever owned. I take it with me for work in sending e-mails, writing, creating presentations, pulling up reports, and managing a large sales force throughout California.
At home, I have it connected to a 22″ HP monitor and use it as a server to compliment a MacBook Air 11″ Ultimate that I use when traveling out of the country or work on the road when I’m not in an office (it was $800 on Craigslist!). The MBP is my main computer in streaming media, managing my photos and to watch movies on. It can also handle a lot of the new games that are out such as StarCraft II as well as a bunch of emulators to play a lot of my classic arcade titles on.
If I had to make a choice between my Air, iPad 2, and the MacBook Pro, I would definitely keep the MacBook Pro. Over the year, I’ve upgraded the hard drive to a 500GB WD Scorpio Black 7200RPM and increased the RAM to 8GB and it’s still going strong. I’ll probably keep this for another year or two!
iPhone 4 32GB – Just about everything that I do on my Mac, I do on my iPhone when I don’t have it with me. A lot of the apps that are available on the iPhone these days can substitute and are very close to replacing the functions of a computer. I use the iPhone to send off quick e-mails, update reports, and stay in touch with my staff when I’m working. The iPhone 4 also provides a lot of entertainment with all the apps available for it with games such as Angry Birds and it functions very well as a media player. I also use this for day to day things such as an alarm clock, a navigation device, calendar, etc. It also takes great photos and videos as well so when I don’t have my camera with me, it comes in extremely handy.
I also have this thing Jailbroken so I use it as a hotspot when I need to and I can watch anime anywhere, anytime without WiFi using the My3G app! In short, this does about everything. I could go on and on about the functions, features, design, and how crappy AT&T’s network can get but that’s been mentioned on thousands of reviews all over the internet.
iPad 2 16GB – OMG another Apple device! I think I really am a fanboy! I got rid of the netbook because it sucked and wasn’t as practical as I thought it would be. The iPad however, does just about everything a netbook could do and surprisingly better. I have the iPad on my nightstand to surf the web and read the news in bed. I used to use my notebook and netbook to do that but it was awkward and cumbersome. I also use the app Stream to Me to watch all my downloaded media such as movies and anime on the iPad. I love how it supports just about all video formats from Xvid to MKVs with subtitles! On weekday mornings, I use the iPad to take to the dining table to send off e-mails while I’m eating breakfast. This is also great to take on the plane as well especially with the great battery life to read eBooks and magazines. Plus the fact that it weighs about a 1lb and it’s very thin, I can toss it into a notebook bag or backpack to take anywhere.
Sony DSC TX1 Digital Camera – A digital camera from 2009! Yes I know that there are many great cameras since this came out but I have not found a reason to replace this one yet, It’s much thin, light, and takes amazing photos at night thanks to the Exmor R CMOS image sensor. The built in panorama mode makes taking wide area shorts VERY EASY and it does a great job at that. I’ve already taken at least a thousand pictures with the TX1 and it has made me look like a great photography even though I can barely operate a point and shoot! The touch screen feature is more than a gimmick, it’s actually quite useful in navigating through the camera’s interface in select modes and focus. It’s thin, light, and build make it great for travelers like myself. I’ve taken this thing to Kenya, Bali, Turkey, at least 10 European countries, Japan, China, Australia… 6 continents and it’s still going!
Verizon 3G USB Card – People say that WiFi is everywhere and for the most part, it’s true. However, I’ve been to airports that charge ridiculous amounts for crappy internet connection, and there are places that I like to work out of such as Sizzler that don’t have any internet connection and this thing comes in extremely handy. I could tether using my iPhone but AT&T is cracking down on people who don’t pay for the tethering service so this thing has saved me quite a few times. Bets part is that it’s issued from work otherwise I would subscribe to a 3G/4G service.
That you have wonderful custom essays gadget collection. I wish I also have such great and huge collection like you but my father is really strict. Anyway Version 3G USB card I really need it. Your reviews helped me to decide that this is one of the best.
