Macbook 2016 Review

Posted on July 4, 2016 by Louie Tran Posted in Daily News, Gadgets, Reviews Leave a comment

In this video we are going to talk about the 2016 Retina MacBook. It hasn’t been too long since I did a review on the 2015 retina MacBook and truthfully, not much has changed. That’s not at all a bad thing as it’s still one of my favorite devices to use while traveling or working mobile.

MacBook HardCase by Waterfield Designs

Posted on July 23, 2014 by Louie Tran Posted in Daily News, Workspaces 1 Comment

I don’t normally get excited about getting laptop bags but I was pretty stoked about the MacBook HardCaseby Waterfield Designs.

You see, for at least 5 years I carried a variety of laptops in this old Targus case that went with me just about everywhere in the world.

It was a pretty big part of my mobile life but time has definitely taken a toll on it.

I did my research, saved some money and then went for the MacBook Hardcase by Waterfield Designs because people have often praised them for the quality of their products and customer service. It just came in today! Here’s a look at it!

So far I love it. It has room for all the essentials aside from the laptop such as my mobile hotspot, iPad, pens, mouse, power adaptor, etc. Great design, very lightweight and this thing just reeks of excellent quality.

Definitely a nice upgrade from the old Targus bag!

Pros:

  • Very well designed, excellent quality made in the USA
  • Lots of Room for accessories, plugs, and  adaptors without additional thickness
  • Lifetime Warranty

Cons:

  • Really snug and tight fitting for MacBook Pro Retina 15
  • May be a little heavy for some

Overall Rating: 4.5/5

iPad Air Review

The best smartphone in the market is often debated and Apple is often criticized for not really innovating. I myself get bored of the iPhone regardless of its simple yet elegant design, and having the largest app library of any mobile device so I often switch back and forth between the latest iOS device and an Android phone. The iPad however is a different story. Apple has nailed it time and time again with every iteration of it’s full-sized tablet and the competition doesn’t even come close to the 9.7-inch iPad. So is it worth it to ditch your current 4th-Gen iPad for the new iPad Air? Let’s take a quick look…  Continue reading→

Geek Life October 2013

It’s been an eventful October and I’m surprised that I actually have time to sit down and put this post together. Lots of new gear this month not including the iPhone 5s I barely picked up in late September such as the new MacBook Air 2013, a police radar detector, Canon S110, and the iPad Air on November 1st (review coming soon!). We also went hiking twice in October thanks to the nice weather change in Southern California where it’s not as scorching hot as it was during the summertime!  Continue reading→

Macbook Air 2013 Quick Review

Posted on October 30, 2013 by Louie Tran Posted in Daily News, Gadgets, Reviews 24 Comments

The Macbook Air has come a long way from since the day Steve Jobs wowed the audience by pulling it out of a manila envelope not too long ago. It has become the go to notebook for students, journalists, and people from all sorts of professions wanting the ultimate portability with as little compromise as possible. I’ve owned a variety of laptops and tablets over the years trying to figure out what the “sweet spot” is in getting work done on the go. Sure there are several thin and light ultraportables but you always sacrifice either performance, battery life and sometimes even both. Or you can take a tablet with you but there are some things you just can do on a tablet! And finally, there are several occasions where it has been inconvenient carrying around a 15-inch notebook which can be a strain hopping from airport to airport.

This year’s Macbook Air boasts 12 hours of battery life thanks to the new Haswell processor in their new line of notebooks making this a winner in terms of design, portability, battery life and performance.  Continue reading→

Patio Workspace!

Patio Workspace

Sometimes, the day is too nice to be indoors so I bring out the 13-inch MacBook Retina and work outside! Sure it’s no comparison to the 27-inch iMac I have in the office but it’s always good to get some fresh air every now and then. If I wanted to, I could just do most of my work off the Samsung Galaxy S4 and throw my feet on the table, but since these are work hours, I have to be a little bit more work conscious even if this is at home!

THISISMYWORKSPACE.COM Domain Acquired!

Workspace 2-17-2013

I’ve been so busy as of late and haven’t had time to do any reviews or simple posts. Just recently, we (I) acquired THISISMYWORKSPACE.COM which is a domain name that I thought of when walking home after having a couple of Cajun Fish Tacos over at Wahoo’s. For years, The Geeks Office really never had any direction so it was really hard to figure out what I was going to do with this domain. For now I am going to keep things as they are but focus more on the workspaces. I enjoy looking at how people’s have theirs setup whether it be at work, at home, or even on the floor. It doesn’t really matter. I also just setup a Flickr group called This is My Workspace where you can go ahead and feel free to post your workspace and I will feature it on the site. Apple MacBook Pro 13-inch Retina Display Review

Posted on April 3, 2013 by Louie Tran Posted in Daily News, Gadgets, Reviews 7 Comments

Macbook-Pro-13-inch-Retina

When the first 13-inch MacBook Pro Retina was released in Q4 of 2012, it received a mix response. It was praised for being one of the most beautiful 13-inch notebooks to date with an amazing retina display, however it was highly criticized for being way overpriced starting at $1,699 with only 128GB of storage with no dedicated graphics card. Just recently, Apple did a refresh of their notebooks and the 13-inch MacBook Pro received a slight upgrade in hardware and most surprisingly a $200 reduction in price. Is the 2013 13-inch MacBook Pro now worth it? Let’s find out!

PT Smartcase for Note II

I don’t get the chance to post as often as I want to these days but I do update my Flickr and Instagram pretty frequently so you can see a lot of my food porn on both of them. If you haven’t noticed already I’ve switched from using the iPhone 5 and am now proudly sporting a Samsung Galaxy Note 2 which better suits my needs because of the customization, larger screen, and expandable capabilities. Although the iPhone 5 is a nice phone, I like most people have gotten bored of it and tired of Apple’s restrictions on how I can use my phone. I love the fact that I can load as many songs and videos I want in several different formats and it’s great that I can pop in a 32GB MicroSD card and not worry about space. I like it so much that I’ve pretty much broken free of the Apple eco-system and eliminated the need for having an iPad Mini because it was redundant having both. The Note 2 is good enough to cover both the phone and the tablet for my uses. The eco-system thing is all hype anyway. I have no issues surviving without iMessage which can easily be substituted with apps like LINE or Facebook Chat. The people who matter to me have them already and if they don’t, they like me enough to install them! PhotoStream was an annoyance and uploading photos to Dropbox is a better solution. I could go on and on but people who gave Android a chance and love it have already said the same things over and over.

This session of Geek Life covers the usual food, tech, and I also went to Mardis Gras in New Orleans as well as take a cruise to the West Caribbean! Don’t worry, I wasn’t stranded on that Carnival Cruise! Continue reading→

iMac 2012 Review

Apple has set the standard on ultraportable notebooks, mainstream laptops, tablets, and smartphones for the past few years. Let’s not forget that they also produce desktop computers as well and they are also pretty damn good at it thanks to their iMac. Apple’s philosophy of simplicity and performance has been with the iMac so how do you improve on something that is already great besides giving it a spec upgrade? They answered that question in the Q4 live press conference by unveiling a thinner and prettier iMac, which has turned a lot of heads with the 5mm edges. Is this new incarnation of the iMac just about looks? Was performance sacrificed to keep the computer light and thin? Let’s take a test drive on the Apple’s latest all in one desktop!
