I haven’t logged onto this site in months! With a combination of just getting married, promoted at work, and playing with a lot of new gear within the past 90 days, my schedule has been pretty full! This is just one of those rare Sundays where I can finally sit down and write about whatever I want to. I hope I get more days like this!
On a hot summer day, the beach is one of the top two places for me to go. The other option is to stay indoors and watch anime 😉
Once in awhile, I will train and test Lily’s tolerance of fear. As someone commented before, she is the cutest doorstop ever!
Picked up a spare battery and charger for my Galaxy S4. Helps not having to worry about running out of juice when you’re always out on the road. It was a better option than having a battery case when the Galaxy S4 was my main phone at the time.
Me and Karo at the Langham in Pasadena. It’s a really beautiful hotel with amazing landscaping, gardens, and decor. It costs an arm and a leg to stay per night but we like to visit and have brunch here since we live about a 5 minute drive away from here!
At the Langham, I had a French Onion Soup and Lobster Pot Pie. It was a most excellent meal. Burned a hole in the wallet but thankfully we only eat here a few times a year.
Even after eating all of that fancy food, there’s nothing that beats a good bowl of ramen. One of my favorite local places is Tamaya in Alhambra, CA!
We took a trip out to Las Vegas towards the end of June…
Hopped into a limo…
And got hitched! It was definitely the best day of my life. Meeting Karo was a blessing, being with her is a lot of fun, and now I’m the luckiest husband in the world!
One of Karo’s fruit arrangements! She made this for my grandparents on the 4th of July!
We made a trip out to San Luis Obispo. One of the places that you absolutely need to stop by is Splash’s. Their bread bowl clam chowder with the seafood topper is the best I’ve ever had.
After a few weeks of rest and relaxation and being out on the road. It was finally time to get back to work… at home on my patio!
We went to the OC County Fair with some friends. Every fair is famous for it’s ridiculous food but one of my favorites are the turkey legs. And oh boy that’s a a lot of turkey legs!
Here we are at the OC County Fair. I’m not in this picture because I’m the one taking the picture!
Some jackass parking at the Best Buy in Pasadena. Pisses me off when people are so inconsiderate and park like this.
After finally hitting 75,000 miles on my 2008 Audi A4, it was time to retire it. Picked up a 2013 BMW 328i and love it. Handles really well but I really wish the navigation system and media controls were touch screen instead of using the old fashioned knob. Overall a pretty good car as it is much more gas efficient than my old A4. I don’t think I will be getting another BMW after this one though…
After blowing some coin on a new car, the cheapest thing to eat was a sandwich at Lee’s for less than $3
Made a trip to Tahoe for work. In order to get there from LA, you need to fly into Reno first and then it’s less than an hour drive to get to Tahoe.
One of the activities we did was rafting. It was a blast and a few of us actually fell in the water. Thankfully, my iPhone 5 survived the trip!
After spending almost a week in Tahoe, it felt good coming back to the San Gabriel Valley and having a nice delicious plate of Hainan chicken and rice.
Picked up some sound equipment to play with. The Bose SoundLink II sounds incredible for such a small speaker. I used it for an outdoor dinner party and it was loud and clear. The Beats Mixr on the other hand… well they are in my opinion the best sounding Beats headphones but they are really uncomfortable. I returned that after a few days use. For something priced at $249, one of the things it needs to be is comfortable and it’s not! Oh by the way, speaking of the dinner party…
It was a huge success. Karo and her partners put together the debut of their catering service in less than 7 hours. Since it was such short notice, the needed a DJ to have some music playing in the background…
So I had my fake DJ setup. Basically it was my laptop running a Spotify playlist with cross fading enabled. I used the Bose SoundLink as speakers and people were actually quite impressed.
I picked up Karo a MacBook Air 13-inch 2012 from someone at the Macrumors forum. It was a great deal and she was in need of a new laptop! It made me cringe watching her work on her 5 year old Toshiba notebook! No wife of mine is going to be stuck with old technology!
Some good news… I got promoted from Sales Manager to Director at work! I updated my about.me site, which was basically change a few words to reflect that!
Me and Karo celebrated my promotion at Tokyo Wakko! The place is OK but for some reason I just like going there. Maybe it’s the hibachi fried rice. Maybe I like watching the chef do all the cray tricks. Who knows.
Some Apple fanatics camping out for the iPhone 5s in the Pasadena store. I didn’t even have to wait in line. Thanks to some cool people at the MacRumors forum, I found out you could just order online on Best Buy and do an instore pickup right on launch day.
My review of the iPhone 5s should be up within a few days at the time of this writing. But here’s a quick take on it:
With every “S” revision of the iPhone, you can always expect an overall improvement over something already great and Apple has done just that with the 5s. But with fierce competition such as the HTC One, Samsung Galaxy S4, and the Nokia 1020, the iPhone now has a harder time to sway those who are looking for a bigger screen, flexible operating system, and a new different design. If these three categories are your main priorities in looking for a smartphone then the iPhone 5s or any iPhone isn’t really for you and there are a lot of good phones out in the market right now. Even if you are still under contract with the iPhone 5, you will be able to survive just phone for another year and wait for the iPhone 6 next year.
Now if you can look past everything I mentioned above, the iPhone 5s brings a faster processor, better camera, and a well executed Touch ID concept. Let’s also not forget to take into account that the App Store is the strongest in the mobile market and iOS is the easiest mobile operating to use. If you are looking for a good overall smartphone or just want to have the best iPhone out there, then you will not regret owning an iPhone 5s.
Pros:
Touch ID is very well executed
Impressive camera
Excellent Performance
Still the easiest smartphone to use
Cons:
No real design upgrade
Still waiting for a bigger screen
iOS7 is still playing catch-up
No real improvement to battery life
Overall Rating: 4/5
That’s it for now. I will try to keep up with the Geek Life as often as I can or as time permits!
