All Devices on Deck

All Devices on Deck!

Just picked up the Microsoft Surface Pro recently just to try out and so far I am loving it. I used to have to carry a MacBook Air, iPhone 5, and an iPad Mini but I have consolidated everything down to just the Galaxy Note 2 and the Surface Pro and it seems to be working out pretty well. It takes so time getting used to because it is heavier than the iPad and the screen resolution is a pain on some of the desktop apps. However, the transition from the iPad Mini was similar from going from an iPhone 5 to the Galaxy Note 2. I’ll have a review up on it shortly.

But for now, here are all my devices in all their glory!

The Geeks Desk 12/02/2012

Been quite busy as of late and haven’t been able to post as much. Best place to follow me would be on Instagram by following @louievtran or on Twitter @thegeeksoffice

I’ve been doing quite a bit of reviews in the past month going from the iPad Mini, iPad 4, and just recently reviewed the Samsung Galaxy Note II. One of the reasons why I love freelance writing is because I can write and review what I want but Q4 of this year has been hectic with a lot of new gadgets coming out.

Anyway, my recent desk setup is a bit different this time since I replaced the Apple Thunderbolt Display with a 27-inch iMac. My workspace has been a mess as of late and I need to get a new desk soon!

The Geek’s Desk – 8/30/2012

Had a lot of changes to my desk since I did this feature. I mostly work on my iPad or my MacBook Air when I’m on the road but this is where I spend the majority of the time when I’m at home. Here’s what’s on my desk!  Read more…

What’s in a Geek’s Bag?

Being on the road, it’s important to take the right things for the right situations. What’s equally important is the bag that you have as well. I’ve gone through different types of bags such as Targus, Tumi, Ogio, Kenneth Cole, etc but the bag that combines style, practicality, and durability for me is STM. Of course everyone is different and has different needs but their bags have worked well for me over the years and I am a frequent traveler.

Geek Life – The Geek in July 1st to July 14th

Celebrating July 4th in -4F Weather in Los Angeles! I guess the heat caused Yahoo’s computers to freak out

Quite a few highlights in the first few weeks of July starting from Independence Day, Anime Expo, and the release of the Samsung Galaxy S3 on the American LTE networks. Of course there were other things happening in between as well such as work, food, and life in general! I was also testing the HTC One X and the Samsung Galaxy S3 to compare how it stands up to the best phone of 2011. So far I have been embracing Android’s Ice Cream Sandwich while waiting on Apple’s next generation iPhone. So far there hasn’t been anything that impressive of iOS6 and I am more excited about Android’s JellyBean. Read more…

The Geek’s Top Gadgets of Summer 2012

This has been one crazy year as I have been changing my gadgets like how women change their shoes and purses! I would say that in the past 6 months, almost all of my gadgets have been refreshed and a lot of it has to do with the way I work. I used to work at home and in the office more often but now I’m out in the field quite a bit so I need a lot of power (I’m talking both batteries and system performance) on the go these days. 2011 wasn’t really an impressive year, but 2012 has been a great leap for mobile tech for both work and play. This is what I have been working with recently… Read more…

Thanks to Insomnia… We Now Have a Facebook Page!

I’ve been really busy these days with my work and whatever that I have of a personal life leaving me little time to write and give extensive reviews on tech products. As you can see from my posts recently, I’ve been focusing a lot on food which is also one of life’s greatest gifts and it’s been a blessing having Karo whip up these amazing dishes in the kitchen in our home!

Although I haven’t updated this site much, I still participate heavily in Instagram (username louievtran), Twitter, Flickr and my own personal Facebook. The thing with my Facebook is that it’s only for friends and family and the link that I had to it on this site was sort of pointless. Since I wasn’t able to sleep last night, I decided to create a Facebook version of this page! You can get to it by clicking on the link on the header or simple click here!

Above is what my desk has been looking like and that’s on a good day!

Review – Logitech K750 Mac Keyboard

I was getting tired of the Apple Bluetooth Keyboard for several reasons such poor battery life, the lack of a numeric keypad, and occasional bluetooth glitches just to name a few. The Logitech K750 Mac Keyboard solves all of those issues. Read more…

Cable Organization: Cleaning Up the Rat’s Nest – Home Office

During the late afternoon, I cleaned up the Rat’s Nest of Cables in the living room so I decided to clean up the mess in my home office too (pictured above). This was a much more challenging project because there are a lot more devices involved with wires and cables just about everywhere. It was indeed a scary sight especially with loads of dust all over the place!!!  Read more…

Cable Organization: Cleaning Up the Rat’s Nest – Living Room

If the entertainment center in your living room looks like mine (pictured above) or worse, then you don’t need to feel alone. When you have your TV, Digital Cable Box, and videogame console, it’s more than enough to create a disgusting mess of wires. I’ve always envied people with clean setups where the wiring is practically invisible and I’ve always told myself that I would clean mine up… yeah that was a year ago.  Read more…
